Sewing Machine Applique with Connie Davidson, NQA Certified Teacher

Come learn how to Sewing Machine Applique or get a refresher course from NQA Certified Teacher, Connie Davidson. In this class patterns will be supplied to produce 2 multi-layered sewing machine applique blocks. These blocks will teach a variety of techniques including invisible applique, starch method and raw edge fusible. Students will also be using their sewing machines to take advantage of the machine stitches available on their personal machines.   

Class time: 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

You'll need:

  • The book, "Machine Applique, a Sampler of Techniques"  by Sue Nickels.  Sew Much More does not carry this book but it can be ordered from Amazon 
  • 2 - 12" squares of light background cotton fabric (this does not have to be solid)
  • 8" squares of cotton fabric in your color choices for the flower patterns
  • 1/2 yd - Wonder Under or similar paper backed fusible web
  • Pencil
  • Scotch Tape
  • Small sharp scissors for fabric and paper
  • Open toe applique foot
  • Sewing machine, manual and tools, foot pedal and cord
  • Needle assortment (70/10, 80/12, metallic)
  • Extra Bobbins
  • Thread in coordinating and contrasting colors to your fabric. You may use metallic, rayon, cotton and Sulky Polyester invisible threads
Fat Quarters can be used to cut your 12' and 8' squares. 

NOTE regarding the book: "Machine Applique, a Sampler of Techniques" by Sue Nickels.  Sew Much More does not carry this book.  It is available on Amazon. They have many used copies that are priced from $5.34 and up. Many with free shipping.   The new copies are $32.00.  We suggest you purchase the used copies.




Instructor: Connie Davidson
Instructor Bio: You'll love learning Machine Applique from Connie, who is a NQA Certified Teacher and a NQA Past President. Connie Davidson grew up in Cincinnati, OH and is the second oldest of 10 children, so her life was filled with organized chaos and casseroles. She has been sewing all of her life and was making her own clothes by age 8. She started quilting in the early 90s and has always enjoyed learning new techniques from some amazing teachers. Connie started teaching and giving quilting lessons and worked to become a NQA Certified Teacher. She has been involved with the NQA for many years and became President from 2007-2010. She completed her NQA Certified Teacher credentials in 2009. Connie loves to teach beginners and believes that learning good basic skills can translate well to every aspect of quilting. After working almost 30 years in an operating room, she is now happily retired and lives in Sun City, SC. She now has time to quilt any time she wants!
